When processing cut and bulb flowers, the length of a flower is monitored in addition to its weight and ripeness. A homogeneous batch of flowers yields more, so it pays to sort them well and to bunch them carefully.

However, continuously assessing the correct length can be difficult and labour-intensive. In order to simplify this process, BTE recently manufactures a coloured line conveyor belt, in collaboration with a client. This conveyor belt forms part of a processing line at which various varieties and qualities of flowers are processed. For that reason, this conveyor belt has been fitted with no fewer than five lines in different colours, which were fitted during a special process.

Special production of strings

BTE used strings to create the coloured lines. As they were not available in red, yellow and orange, they were custom-made, with a customer-specific width. We did have the green and blue strings in stock.

Permanent coloured lines

The strings, made of identical plastic, were accurately incorporated in the conveyor belt during a thermal process, in accordance with the customer’s wishes. This resulted in thin, permanent coloured lines on the belt's surface.

Homogeneous flower quality

The end result is a processing line on which bunches of flowers are prepared with the stalks between the roofs. Depending on flower variety and quality, each bunch of flowers is positioned with the heads at the allocated coloured line. The flowers are then pressed by the orange sponge belt, after which the stalks are tied and cut at the same length. The waste is disposed of and the flowers roll off the belt in neat bundles. This ensures all bunches of flowers are of the same, homogeneous quality.

Customer-specific Interested?

This effective customer-specific belt version is a next step towards faster flower processing. Even when less experienced staff bunch the flowers, productivity and quality remain high. As such, the coloured line conveyor belt is another successful addition to the popular flower line. BTE can supply nine different line colours from its standard range.

Red, Yellow, Orange, Grey, Green, Black, Blue, Pale Blue and white. Any other colours are available on request and depending on the colour of the basic material.
